When Anger Feels Right—But Costs You Peace

Some anger is justified.
Something really is wrong. Something really does matter. And if you care about people, justice, truth, or what’s happening in the world, it makes sense that you’d feel the heat rise up.
But here’s what I’ve been noticing lately: a lot of us aren’t just angry… we’re angry and tired.
Not “tired” like we need a nap.
Tired like our nervous system has been running on high for too long. Tired like we’re carrying tension in our shoulders and replaying conversations in our heads. Tired like we’re always bracing for the next headline.
And even when our anger is understandable, it can still start taking something from us:
it shortens patience
steals joy
drains compassion
keeps us stuck in reaction mode
and eventually… it costs us peace
Jesus Doesn’t Shame Anger—But It Shouldn't Rule You.
One of the things I love about Jesus is that He never minimized pain, and He never ignored what was wrong.
But He also didn’t let anger become the thing that led Him.
He stayed rooted. Steady. Present. Loving. Clear.
And that’s what we’re after too—not pretending everything is fine, but learning how to carry it differently.
A Simple Practice: The Holy Delay
Here’s the simple practice from the video:
When you feel the heat rise up—before you post, text, or react—pause.
Open your hands.
And whisper:
“Jesus, make me steady. Help me love first. Show me what’s really needed here.”
That’s it.
You’re not denying the emotion—you’re giving your soul a chance to catch up to your nervous system.
You’re choosing the way of Jesus before you choose a reaction.
You’re Not Bad. You’re Human.
If anger has felt heavy lately, you’re not broken.
You’re human.
And peace doesn’t come from pretending you don’t feel anything. It comes from learning how to respond with wisdom, love, and steadiness—especially when everything in you wants to react.
