A Simple Faith Reflection on Mr. Rogers and Finding Peace in a Loud Season

CHRISTMAS! It's beautiful, exciting, and sometimes so busy and loud that you can’t even hear your own thoughts.
I'm sitting here on a rainy Monday thinking about how important finding quiet is in our lives.
Especially in this season, we're bombarded with noise, schedules, gift buying, people needing something. It can be overwhelming.
It's also the second Sunday of Advent where we think about PEACE. How do we balance the noise of the season with the peace of Jesus? The truth is, many of us feel more overwhelmed than ever.
If that’s you… you’re not failing. You’re human. And you’re not alone.
This week our Pastor Reacts video looked at one of the most quietly powerful scenes in modern film— a moment from A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood where Mr. Rogers invites someone to share a full minute of silence.
Just sixty seconds. No music. No noise. No distractions.
A minute to breathe. A minute to remember the people who “loved you into being.” A minute of quiet in a world that rarely gives us any. The scene had people in tears. Not because it was sad but because it spoke to a deeper need in all of us.
The Power of One Quiet Moment

What struck me in this scene wasn’t just the silence…but how uncomfortable silence can be when life has been loud for a long time.
We get so used to the constant noise that quiet feels unfamiliar—even scary.Because in the quiet, the things we’ve been running from finally have room to surface.
But maybe that discomfort is actually a sign of how deeply we need the quiet we’ve been avoiding.
In a world that never stops talking, the God who loves you still prefers to whisper.
When We Are Quiet, We Begin To Notice:
the emotions we pushed aside,
the exhaustion we tried to outrun,
the longing for rest we’ve ignored,
the ache to be fully seen and fully loved.
The Bible tells us that God's voice is often still, small, and quiet.
It's not like a storm - of noise and stress
It's not like a earthquake - of condemnation
It's not like a fire - raging out of control
It is like Jesus - gentle, steady, present. Like a whisper.
Oh! And You Don’t Have to Earn Peace
You are not a machine God expects to keep running.
You don’t have to earn rest or prove you’re worthy of peace.
You are a person Jesus deeply loves.
He meets you in the quiet just as gently as He meets you in your most desperate moments.
